Although God Of War download is one of the biggest slaps I’ve received in the last five years, I do not forget that Capcom has unfortunately not done much publicity around his masterpiece. I can not say if this is due to overconfidence but still is that unlike a DMC 3 which has multiplied trailers and other announcements, God Of War has remained very discreet. Thus, we can wonder if this title will have the favors of an audience which, it must be admitted, pays more attention to a big marketing campaign than to the opinion of a specialist press. In a sense, it’s understandable but on the other hand, this observation is very frustrating especially when we see that original and sublime works like The Mark Of Kri, Beyond Good & Evil or ICO did not have the success that they deserved. Like the aforementioned games, God Of War deserves to be known and recognized for what it is: the best action game of the PC. Far from the trendy escapades of Dante or the temporal delusions of Onimusha 3, this game is based on a mythological imagery while introducing an anti-hero for whom lifestyle means barbarism.
But to introduce such a character, it is necessary to add a past, a present and a future. Thus, if one can criticize the freedoms taken with the basic material and some dialogues which turn quickly round, the atmosphere is of an evocative power able to silence the gods themselves. To be honest, I think it’s the alchemy between all aspects of the game that has made the aura of God Of War so intense. First of all the realization of the title impresses both in its graphic and technical mastery. Presenting superb cinematics (which owe as much to the CG as to painting), it favors most of the time the simple framing that magnifies the appearances of the deities coming to help Kratos. In addition, the staging is in the service of the scenario, the opposite is also valid. Opening on a desperate scene that sees Kratos jump from a cliff to end his life, the game returns a few days back to tell us what happened during that time. Your quest for redemption can then begin under the wise guidance of Athena who will charge you to murder the god of war Ares.
By taking advantage of such a basic synopsis, the game could not decently disappoint in its construction. I assure you, this is not the case since God Of War is a model of balance. Mixing light phases of platforms with the Homeric jousts while incorporating some riddles, the architecture of the game is carefully thought out, which gives the end an impression of enchantment from end to end. This is also due to the virtual absence of round trips, something rare in this kind of titles. In short, although we would have liked a longer life (count on 8 hours to finish in Normal), it is appreciable to note that unlike DMC 3, God Of War does not blouse the player relying on artifices to increase the life artificially. The result is an enticing progression that continues to amaze through visual surprises, scenarios or specific to the gameplay. Yet GOW’s approach can not be more classic. You advance in a straight line, you recover various powers offered by the gods and you face hordes of enemies as well as some bosses. Seen from this angle, nothing predestines God Of War to a total census, and yet …
First, let’s have a look at the gameplay. Although Kratos has only two weapons throughout the game, they can evolve to offer us a much wider range of shots. Like Onimusha, you will have to recover red orbs (that will leave your enemies) that will serve you to evolve your weapons that have multiple levels of power. Once you have reached the next level, your weapon will be more effective and you will have access to more combos or moves. This is also true for the spells you will get from the gods and will see their power grow as you make them evolve. In the end, the range of actions is rather expanded, Kratos can perform dodging by performing roulades with the right stick and the use of powers is very convenient to get out of difficult situations. As such, we will report a blue gauge that can be filled by harvesting orbs of the same color.
Whenever you use a spell, the gauge will gradually empty and you will have to fill it again to be able to use magic again. Then you can also transform into superman for a short time, after storing energy, to clean around. To add a little dynamism to the action, the developers have also opted for contextual actions. For example, after stunning an enemy, a small icon will appear above it. You will then need to quickly press the key for Kratos to perform a specific action that, most often, instantly kill the enemy. This idea is really well seen because the said actions register without dead time during the fighting and incredibly increase the intensity of the clashes. These situations also reach their peak against the bosses where you can sometimes press several keys to literally project your opponent against the scene or to give him hits of a rare violence. In parallel with the fighting, you will also have to solve puzzles that are summed up most often to find objects to advance, although some are closer to small puzzles. Too bad all the same that these passages are not more numerous, even if one will appreciate the diversity of these phases sometimes based on the speed, the reflexes or the reflection.
Artistically speaking, the game is just perfect. The level design is inspired and masterful, the bestiary is made up of few monsters but who are very well animated and the bosses are certainly the most impressive we’ve seen in a beat’em all PC for a long time. On the other hand, it is disappointing to note that there are only three of them. But past this frustration, what virtuosity! Between a gigantic hydra that you will face under a deluge sweeping your boat like a straw and a minotaur covered with armor that will be happy to make you enjoy his burning breath, it is an enchantment of every moment that you will return the retina. It should also be noted that although the game is watering us all scenery more beautiful than the other by throwing us in pasture dozens of monsters that will ploy under a deluge of visual effects, the whole thing is done without any loading time. .. Prowess, did you say prowess? A word also on the sound part that does not demerit. The music is numerous and emphatic, in total agreement with what is happening on the screen and their composition is matched only by their orchestration. From an excellent dubbed American, we pass to a French dubbing which is well in the tone and which, although that falls short of its model, does not make in the caricature anyway, like a Metal Gear for to name only him.
Beyond its potpourri condition that includes all that has made the success of many hits, God Of War is a masterpiece that lives to one hundred per hour. Thought down to the smallest detail, the game of SCEA has some flaws against him (life, dialogues that lack depth, some slight concerns of visibility due to a fixed camera …) but ultimately weigh little in the balance. Aesthetically perfect, with a gameplay without real false note, here is a production that we hope to see triumph, if only to make it clear that a game that has not been entitled to the honors of an impressive campaign advertising, can still prevail. The future will tell if I have been too optimistic but as it stands, I can do nothing but congratulate Sony for this collector’s item that will have returned physically and psychologically. Amazing, dizzying and carrying the banner of divine quality, God Of War is an amalgam of all these qualities and many other things.
God Of War Game
Reinventing a series is never easy. What to keep, remove? Make sure not to offend the fan while trying to offer him something new, fresh. A gamble, but often necessary. Download God of War dares, better, he goes to the end of his vision even to attract the wrath of some who would absolutely see in him a new episode built around the same assets: a Hollywood staging, a frenetic action and a revenge hero. If in some ways, we find these ingredients in God of War, the game of Santa Monica Studio goes further, much further even. Thus, in the manner of a Resident Evil, this new segment of the epic Kratos breaks some conventions established since the beginning of the saga and if there is a safe bet that the episode will be subject to much debate and CRIT.
To achieve this result, five years will have been necessary. Five years in which Cory Barlog and his teams have put everything back, from gameplay to scenario through the direction of the game. However, everything in God of War is number of balancing act as it retains the essence of the series while seeing further. Indeed, beyond the technique and the artistic aspect making this episode one of the most beautiful games of the PS4, the title does not deny at any moment its origins or even what happened in the previous opus. It would have been easier to make a clean sweep of the past and to reboot the saga except that here, the ingenuity is precisely because Barlog has used the mythology of the series intelligently to mix with the Nordic to make Kratos a central actor, as much in Midgard as in the eight other worlds constituting the kingdom of Odin. Logic therefore that the developers were more interested in the character by developing his personality.
Despite his divine nature, it made sense to be interested in the human side of Kratos as well as the desire to tell a deeper and equally intense story through the quest for redemption of Kratos and the journey of initiation that he goes undertake with his son Atreus following the death of his wife. If one could fear that this aspect is in the end only an awkward resucée of The Last of Us, the way the scenario was thought astonishes, the latter being followed naturally even interspersed with very numerous clashes against ogres, trolls and other legendary creatures. Intelligent, the narrative oscillates at every moment between emotion, brutality and humor, through excellent dialogues playing mostly on the playful reactions of Atreus contrasting with those more contained of Kratos. However, this God of War never pours into the easy emotion (despite some obligatory passages) and is even a personality that suits him perfectly.
And this is where the genius of the writers who have found the right balance between tasty dialogues, often very funny, poignant scenes, but also epic passages using a staggering staging, one of the strengths of the series since its inception. In fact, for a little over 25 hours (necessary to complete the main story), we are witnessing a balanced adventure whose goal is not to redefine a character, but to explain how his past is must not affect his present and the future of his son. Therefore, the quality of the game is also due to the fact that Cory Barlog sought at all costs to question a credible evolution for Kratos while allowing some ellipses that may frustrate some. How long was between God of War III and God of War? How did Kratos meet his wife? How did she manage to calm the boiling fury he had accumulated for years? None of this is clearly explained to us except that through some of Kratos’ reflections on the sweetness, intelligence and strength of character of his wife, an image is created in the player and we end up having the impression of know his half. Yes, the story of God of War contrasts with that of the other opus, because we are talking about a family history, education so that Atreus does not reproduce the mistakes of his father. If you hope to discover a story of gods, go your way. While these are present, however, they are not the central element of the story despite the journey of our heroes punctuated by clashes against some of them.
