Metaphor ReFantazio is a Japanese RPG produced by Atlus and published by Sega. The title was released on PC and consoles. The developers of the Persona series took part in its creation.
Metaphor ReFantazio Review
The game is set in the kingdom of Euchronia, which is a mirror image of the modern world. The starting point for the plot is the assassination of the local king, the consequence of which is the confusion that is sweeping the country. To restore order, a tournament will be held to elect a new ruler.
The main character, a nameless young man from the Elda tribe, which remains on the margins of society due to contamination with a forbidden type of magic, joins Prince Euchronia, the son of the slain king, who is vying for the throne and traveling through the kingdom in order to win the widest possible support from the people.
Metaphor gameplay
Metaphor ReFantazio has elements that the Persona series is known for. First and foremost is the calendar and time management. Our protégé and his companions travel through Euchronia, where they get embroiled in various events. However, they have time for not every activity.
The combat system is essentially turn based and is also reminiscent of the Persona series or Shin Megami Tensei due to the local equivalent of the Press Turn mechanic, which involves attacking weaknesses to gain an extra turn.
Archetypes
One certain novelty are Archetypes, which on the surface resemble Persona, but are closer to classic professions. Each character can equip any archetype. An important part of the struggle is the exploration of dungeons.
Opponents are visible as we comb through them and we can attack them without having to start a turn-based clash. Metaphor: ReFantazio does not lack the equivalent of social links, a mechanic that allows us to establish relationships with the main character’s companions, which translates into various gameplay benefits.
Class creation
With the ability to combine classes, the developers will offer us a lot of freedom in creating the team of our dreams. A lot of emphasis will be placed on the development of relationships between characters, and relationships with team members will affect the course of battles and the plot itself.
The audio visual side of the upcoming production is also worth noting. Visually, the title refers to the work of the Dutch painter Hieronymus Bosch from the Renaissance period, which gives the whole thing a rather unique, as for a jRPG, style.
Soejima’s inspiration
Metaphor ReFantazio makes it clear that this is not a copy of Persona in a fantasy world, and that it draws on 35 years of JRPG history, taking things from Shin Megami Tensei, Etrian Odyssey and others.
The designers of Etrian Odyssey also teamed up with the Studio Zero team to translate some of their ideas into the complex, multi layered system of Metaphor ReFantazio.

Heavily stylized to look like modern anime, the visuals will deliver extremely impressive scenes, which are further perfectly complemented by a highly cohesive interface, based on the aforementioned brand and achievements within it.
New technology has made it possible to introduce more details or particle effects within the various stages and spaces. It looks like Metaphor ReFantazio Download PC will be a real breath of fresh air that will set it apart as a JRPG.
