Sea Power Naval Combat in the Missile Age Review
Sea Power Naval Combat In The Missile Age developed by lead designer Cold Waters, is a naval battle game filled with Cold War-era ships, submarines, aircraft and weapons.
The game features an impressive 150 naval units, including more than 60 aircraft, as well as 130 weapons systems and 50 different ground facilities. The game is set in the North Atlantic, the Persian Gulf, the Gulf of Tonkin and the Mediterranean Sea, with a dynamic campaign to be released in alpha.
Gameplay mechanics and controls
Speaking of weapon systems, Sea Power recreates each ship’s weapon system with weapon physics and sensor modeling. This ecosystem of complex weaponry is difficult to navigate, even if you are familiar with it. Be prepared to pull out the manual!
The controls are fine. The game uses the same control scheme as Cold Waters, which means you can control each unit individually, or you can use the map to navigate them by setting waypoints.
Realism and variety of units
Some games contain a plethora of units, like the Wargame series or Steel Division. More often than not, however, these impressive numbers, which sometimes go into the hundreds, are usually greatly inflated by having many of the same units, but with different stats.
Sea Power Naval Combat In The Missile Age Download PC is one game where this is not the case, as there are dozens of fighters, bombers, submarines, destroyers, missile cruisers, aircraft carriers, transport ships, merchant ships, civilian aircraft, torpedo boats and much more.
Graphics and visuals
First impressions are the most important, and Sea Power looks a hell of a lot better. The game’s graphics are truly impressive. It very closely follows the graphic style of Cold Waters, to the point where you can’t tell the difference.
Unit models look sharp, and textures look great. Even rockets and missiles look equally detailed. Every ship, plane, submarine, as well as the sea, clouds and weather effects also look good. The terrain, however, looks poor.
Improving the user experience
For a game as complex as Sea Power Naval Combat In The Missile Age, the mission editor is fairly simple to use. You choose a location, place a few groups of units, put them in order, and then you can immediately run a scenario and try it out.
It’s a fantastic way to customize the scenario to your own preferences. The game also has a cool encyclopedia where you can see each unit, read about them and learn about their equipment.
Is Sea Power worth it?
Of course! Some expectant fans may be a bit disappointed by the lack of a campaign at launch, but the team has already come out and said that a dynamic campaign will appear in the second quarter of 2025.
If you’re someone who loves the Cold War and the naval battles that could be if they ever get hot, you don’t have many options. Fortunately, the one you’re going to have when Sea Power Naval Combat In The Missile Age hits the PC.
