In the world of Split Fiction heroes Mio and Zoe, however, things are not that easy. The two clever women with different styles and characters seek hope in a technology company that offers help with book publishing.

To maximize the effect, the aspiring writers are hooked up to a machine that draws plot ideas directly from their imaginations. As a result of unforeseen events, the protagonists cause an unusual incident that traps them in their own artistic visions.

Return to reality

The only way to return to reality is to find the glyphs and get to the core of the mysterious machine. However, Zoe and Mio do not realize that the helpful corporation has sinister plans for them. Split Fiction is a cooperative arcade game that brings together several genres and perspectives.

For the most part, we will observe the world from behind the characters’ backs on a split screen, but to keep things interesting, the developers occasionally introduce two-dimensional, first-person, and even upside-down sequences.

Sci-fi and fantasy worlds

In the game, we will alternate between sci-fi and fantasy worlds, but honestly, it’s hard to say which one I liked better. Each reality has its own characteristic elements and a slightly different approach to mechanics.

In futuristic sci-fi, there is more dynamic action, shooting, chases and logic puzzles. In fantasy levels, there are more elements of exploration, although don’t get your hopes up too much, because at best, there are quasi semi open locations, a more narrative approach to the gameplay and transformation into fairy tale creatures.

Managing two characters

However, in both cases, the player is guided through scripted locations, but don’t see this as a disadvantage, on the contrary.

This allows the game to maintain a certain pace and a cinematic atmosphere, which is particularly recommended for casual games for two players, so that people with different gaming experience can enjoy the content at a more or less equal level.

Puzzles and multidimensional platforms

This does not mean that Split Fiction focuses on trivial gameplay. The game has repeatedly surprised with its ingenuity and frequent format changes. One moment we are solving logic puzzles in multidimensional platforms, and the next we are playing the role of a ninja.
